Central Aceh Regency is one of the districts in Aceh Province, Indonesia. Its capital is Takengon, a small town in the cool temperate one part of the mountainous spine that runs along the Bukit Barisan Sumatra.
Geography
Central Aceh Regency located in the Gayo Highlands region. Other districts in this region is the central highlands and Gayo Lues district. Three main town of Takengon, Blang Kejeren, and Simpang Three Redelong. The third road linking this town over the area with beautiful views. In the past Gayo region is a remote area before the construction of roads undertaken in this area.
History
The arrival of the Dutch colonial circa 1904, not apart from the potential for Gayo Land estates are very suitable for the cultivation of Arabica Coffee, Tobacco and Damar. At that period the region of Central Aceh District made Onder Afdeeling Nordkus Atjeh with Sigli as its capital. In the Dutch colonial period in the region Takengon established a coffee processing company and Damar. Since then also Takengon area began to develop into a central marketing of the Gayo Highlands of the earth, especially vegetables and coffee.
Onder designation Afdeeling Takengon in the Dutch colonial era, turned into a gun during the Japanese occupation (1942-1945). Gun led by Gunco.
After the independence of the Republic of Indonesia was proclaimed on August 17, 1945, the designation was changed into an area which is then transformed again into districts. Central Aceh stands as an administrative unit on 14 April 1948 based on Oendang-Oendang No. 10 Tahoen 1948 and confirmed again as a district on 14 November 1956 through Law No. 7 (Emergency) Year 1956. Territory covers three kawedanan, namely Kawedanan Takengon, Kawedanan Gayo Lues, and Kawedanan Land Alas.
Tourism, customs, and culture
Some tourist attractions in Central Aceh Regency is Lake Laut Tawar, Pantan Eggplant (scenic attractions), Taman Buru Linge Isak (hunting), Cave Koro pan, pan Pukes, pan Datu, Burni Klieten (hiking), Gayo Waterpark (vehicle for family tourism) and Krueng Peusangan (rafting).
Didong is one of the original art that comes from these upland areas. A group of people sitting cross-legged in a circle. One of the ceh will hummed hymns in the Gayo language and other members will accompany with the clapping of hands and pat a small pillow with a harmonious rhythm.
Agricultural and plantation
Most of the people of Central Aceh Regency living as farmers and planters. Central Aceh Regency produce one of the best arabica coffee in the world. Essential commodities other than coffee are rice, vegetables and tobacco. Coffee and tobacco plantations activities carried out by opening the existing forest area in this region.
Demography
Most of the inhabitants belong to the tribe Gayo. In addition there are also other tribes like Acehnese and Javanese. 99 percent of the people of Central Aceh is Muslim. Community Central Aceh have an annual tradition at the time of the celebration of the proclamation of Indonesia which is the traditional horse racing. It is unique from traditional horse racing is a young jokinya aged between 10-16 years. In addition, the jockey did not use a saddle.
In general, the Gayo, the dominant population in this district is known of their properties are strongly opposed to all forms of colonialism. This area was once known as a region that strongly opposed the Dutch colonial administration. Gayo Society is a strong adherent of Islam. In Gayo Society maintains many buffalo, so some say if you see a lot of buffalo in Aceh that person was in Gayo.
